Suicide: RIP

Many people ignore what their beliefs taught them regarding suicide; some are clueless about what happens to one’s soul. “I want to die.” “Maybe if I die, I will be free and find peace, peace from all the pain I feel.”. These are words said by a person who wants to commit suicide but do you find peace and freedom after committing suicide?

In the Hindi cultural belief, when a person commits suicide, the soul roams around like a ghost and haunts people. It causes trouble for the living. The priest has to perform certain rituals to ensure the soul does not get seen or trouble the living. By doing that, it roams around without being seen. It does not ‘RIP’.

According to Christian belief, it is considered an unforgivable sin since you can’t repent for it after death. It is believed that God gave you the life you have, and only he has the right to take it from you. When you commit suicide, your soul gets punished and sent into hell until judgment day, when you will have to answer for your sins. After being judged, your soul gets sentenced to an eternity in hell where it does not ‘RIP’.

In the ancestral belief, when a person commits suicide, the soul gets bounded and chained. It is put in a dark and cold place in the ancestral realm where no one can reach it. It remains there until judgment day when it gets sentenced to an eternity in hell where there is no peace.

The answer is NO! You do not ‘RIP’ when you commit suicide. Suicide does not only cause suffering for your loved ones but for you as well. It does not set you free from temporary pain and suffering; instead, it will make matters worse, and this time, you will suffer for eternity.

  1. This is a great insight, especially for those who are not aware of the consequences. I hope they get the message and start doing things right however, committing suicide is not the only way out. If your suffering seek psychological help.
